If I were to ask you to name some holiday companies, chances are you could probably name half a dozen or so off the top of your head. Firms like Thomson, Thomas Cook or First Choice…
But does being among the most well known tour operators guarantee customers are getting the best holiday?
I recently saw a survey by Which? that questioned 10,000 holiday makers and found those three major tour operators were among the lowest scoring when it came to customer service, value for money and accommodation.
Both First Choice and Thomson scored a miserable 2 stars out of 5 for value for money and a desperately poor 64% rating overall.
At least Thomas Cook managed a par – getting 3 out of 5 for customer service, but came up short with 2 stars out of 5 for value for money.
These results were only slightly higher than Easy Jet Holidays which came in last with a woeful overall score of 61%.
At the other end of the table, long haul specialists Trailfinders and Kuoni occupied the top spots with an overall rating of 80%. They both scored heavily for excellent customer service and accommodation, and managed a credible 3 stars out of 5 for value for money.
It just goes to show that value for money isn’t always picking the cheapest one!
Whilst these results may come as a shock to some, I must admit I that I am not surprised in the least. As a solicitor specialising in holiday claims on a no win no fee basis, I find that the vast majority of files that land on my desk involve either TUI or Thomas Cook, with Low Cost Travel (also a 64% overall rating) not far behind.
It is a great shame that these organisations seem so willing to take peoples hard earned money but then do very little to justify the expense.
