What a surprise! Ryanair and Easyjet are squabbling again. Some people would think that they really didn't like one another, but the more cynical amongst us might think that they're just doing it for publicity? Perhaps it's a bit of both.
The latest press release from Ryanair air uses some lovely holiday references "Easyjet Flip- Flops Low Fares, Punctuality & ‘Nowhere’ Airports" but I'm not sure it really has much substance.
Ryanair described Easyjet as "flip flopping" on low fares - what a crime! I can't remember the last time I flip flopped on something, but I'm sure my wife refused to talk to me for a week. I know I won't flip flop in a hurry again, but as for Easyjet; does it matter? If it's too expensive then people won't pay for it, whether or not Ryanair decide to bang on about it.
The other criminal act from Easyjet is not publising its punctuality statistcis. I had a quick look at the stats from 2010 and I noticed that Easyjet languished in 31st place, just after Wizz Air. Ryanair were in the heady place of 15th, but having looked a bit closer, I noticed that Easyjet had recorded at least another 50,000 flights and bearing in mind that Ryanair have more passengers (and I assume more flights) than Easyjet, perhaps something is awry. Is it possible that there are not as many Ryanair fanfares (the one the pilot plays to congratulate himself for getting you to your destination on time) as they make out?
And then we get to "Nowhere Airports". I think that's a bit unfair, Southend is somewhere and for at least a month in 2012 in will be vibrant and a well used route. I'm not quite sure how much use "London Southend" (as I'm sure they will call it) will get after that.
Anyway, back to the point:
Do they really hate each other? Perhaps a little bit.
Do they benefit from a war through the media? Definitely
Have I just helped their cause? Probably - damn!
Does anyone really care who they fly with if they choose to go on a low cost carrier? No, they just want to get there and quickly and as economically as possible. Let's be honest a blue plane or an orange plane will do the job just fine. |
