Coach Tour from Hell
Friday, 26 August 2011 06:41

We have recently been approached by a group of 80 holidaymakers from around the world who were brought together by a dire holiday experience. Travellers from Australia, USA and Dubai, were so disappointed by their (supposed) organised trip to Europe that they have asked us to help.

The holidaymakers booked with a well respected Coach Tour company to show them the highlights of Europe over a 12 day period. The reports we have suggest that it was the European holiday from Hell. They were promised "value for money and a high standard of service", but they got nothing of the sort.

British Family Killed in Car Crash in Jamaica
Friday, 05 August 2011 09:53

Tragic news from Jamaica after three British holiday makers were killed in a car crash in Kingston.

The family were travelling in a minibus on the way to Montego Bay when they were hit by a pick-up truck.

Kathleen Rawlinson died at the scene while Gary Bamford and Mr Bamford's daughter, Caisie Muller were pronounced dead on arrival at Falmouth hospital. Also fatally injured was a close family friend from Canada who had joined them on holiday.

A fourth family member is currently in serious but stable condition in hospital, while two others escaped with minor injuries.

The accident occurred when the minibus, being driven by Mr Bamford, was involved in a head-on collision with a local pick-up truck between Kingston and Montego Bay.

Added to the tragedy was the fact the Mrs Rawlinson was wheelchair bound having been involved in another holiday car accident in Spain years ago.

Thomas Cook dip should be temporary?
Friday, 29 July 2011 07:58

Thomas Cook chief executive Manny Fontenla-Novoa will continue to reassure the markets about the future of the group this week, amid reports the company is considering pulling out of long-haul package tour operating.

In recent weeks, a profit warning has sent shares in the FTSE 250 company tumbling. At the start of 2011 shares were listed at in excess of £2.00, but since then they have slid back much closer to 70p. The only positive news surrounding Thomas Cook at present seems to be the potential merger between them and Co-op travel, although the Competition Commission has now delayed a final decision on that until 11 October 2011.

Ryanair Defies the Office of Fair Trading
Tuesday, 05 July 2011 10:15

Ryanair and other airlines are defying the Office of Fair Trading's recommendations to stop charging extoritionate debit card booking fees.

The fees levied by banks on debit card transactions are around 20p. Airlines and other firms such as ferry companies are applying a surcharge of up to £8.00 when tickets are purchased. Ryanair are at the fore of the refusal to change this practice stating that the charge covers website administration. This in turn has led other companies to state that they are not willing to waive their fees until there is, as EasyJet says, "a level playing field".

Only one airline, Monarch, has ceased charging debit card fees. They did this at the beginning of June 2011 and say it took 48 hours for the change to be implemented.

The Office of Fair Trading have stated that credit card charges can continue but that they should be transparent from the beginning of a transaction. They have recommended that only the cost of the transaction be levied on debit card payments. They believe that consumers are unable to carry out price comparisons as the surcharges applied are of differing rates depending on the airline carrier. These charges are not clear until one is almost finished the booking process.

Following their 90 day investigation the Office of Fair Trading have now passed their findings to the Treasury. They Treasury now have 90 days to decide whether they wish to adopt the Office of Fair Trading's findings.
