Spanish Strike Action to Affect Summer Holiday Makers
Monday, 14 March 2011 00:00

Tourists flying to Spain this year should bear in mind that the Spanish Airport Authority (Aena) has announced that they will be taking strike action in protest to the proposed selling off by the Spanish government of parts of the company.

The strike action will affect Spanish airports on a number of dates between April and August.

These strike dates are:

April: 20th, 21st, 24th, 25th and 30th
May: 2nd, 14th, 15th, 19th and 20th
June: 13th, 23rd and 30th
July: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 15th and 31st
August: 1st, 15th and 31st

As well as the expected disruption, the strike action may have repercussions if you purchased your travel insurance on or after the 9th of March (when the news was announced in the UK). If so your policy will not cover you in regards to any disruption you may encounter.

You do, however, have the right to expect your airline to offer alternative arrangements or flights, and they are legally obliged to cover any expenses for additional accommodation and sundries.
