Taking a short holiday or break at a health spa has always been a popular destination, but many spas are having to put in place new procedures after the number of liability claims against them increased by 36% last year according to the National Spa Association.
The majority of these claims are for personal injury relating to massage treatment.
As well as massage, there have been a surge of complaints at spas around the country related to skin damage, emotional trauma and sexual harassment.
Spas have been advised to learn as much as they can about their clients’ health and history before providing a treatment, source any skin care products from reputable companies, service and check equipment regularly and provide regular, high-quality training for their therapists.
