New ruling means sick holiday makers can claim back holiday entitlement

A New European Court of Justice ruling will help sick and ill holidaymakers claim back their lost holiday entitlement. Any holiday that is ruined by illness can now be taken off work as sick days instead the new ruling means.

Norovirus affects 1 in 4 on Boudicca

More problems for Fred Olsen Cruises as their luxury cruise liner, the Boudicca, was quarantined after a sickness outbreak following a trip around the Canary Islands. One-in-four passengers were reported ill on the cruise ship and the likely cause is an outbreak of norovirus on the cruise. Its expected many will look to make a compensation claim for falling ill on the cruise.

Family stranded by ash cloud wins major payout

A family left stranded by the icelandic ash cloud 2 years ago have been awarded £10,000 in compensation in a case that may lead to hundreds of other holiday makers and travellers who were affected by the ash cloud in 2010 being able to make a claim for compensation themselves.

New ATOL Reforms - is my holiday ATOL Protected

Today has seen the launch of the ATOL Flight-Plus scheme. These new ATOL reforms have been introduced to try to make more holidays ATOL protected and provide holiday makers automatic financial protection should their holiday provider, company or airline collapse.

The new ATOL reforms are a reaction to the recent failures of some big names within the travel industry that have caused many to be stranded abroad.

Virgin VS27 flight to Orlando forced to make emergency landing

There are reports of passengers being injured during their dramatic escape from a Virgin A330-300 flight to Orlando yesterday. Virgin Altlantic flight VS27 was forced into an emergency landing about 10 minutes after taking off from Gatwick Airport and it is suggested that up to 15 of the 299 passengers on board were treated in local hospitals as a result of their injuries after being made to use emergency chutes to get off.

Will Ryanair Compensate Stranded Passengers

Ryanair has been battling for 2 years against having to pay for for accommodation, food and drink of those passengers left stranded by the vocanic ash of 2010. A recent judgement, however, may be the first step in finally forcing the Irish airline to have to hand over the money.

Teacher dies in French road traffic accident

A coach carrying 29 schoolchildren crashed in northern France at the weekend leaving one man dead and at least 10 others in hospital.
The pupils, from Alvechurch School in Worcestershire, were returning to the UK from the Aosta Valley, Italy, when the coach left the motorway and came to rest at the bottom of an embankment. The cause is not yet known.
